Who we are
Lucania provides specialist residential care for children and young people. Lucania Care is part of Dignus Group, which is responsible for how your personal information is handled across our services.
For the purposes of data protection law, the data controller is Dignus Group. If you have any questions about this policy or about how we use your information, you can contact us using the details at the end of this page.
The information we collect
Depending on your relationship with us, we may collect and hold the following types of information:
- Contact details such as your name, address, email address and telephone number.
- Information you give us when you make a referral, an enquiry, a complaint or a compliment.
- For young people in our care, the personal and special category information needed to provide safe, appropriate support. This can include health, care, education and safeguarding information, and is only ever collected and shared where the law allows and where it is in the young person’s interests.
- Information about how you use our website, collected through cookies and similar technologies. See our Cookie Policy for detail.
How we use your information, and our lawful basis
We only use personal information where the law allows us to. The lawful bases we rely on include: performing our care and contractual responsibilities; meeting our legal obligations as a regulated children’s care provider; protecting the vital interests of a young person; carrying out tasks in the public interest; and, where appropriate, your consent.
We use the information we hold to respond to referrals and enquiries, to provide and manage care, to keep young people safe, to meet our safeguarding and regulatory duties, and to respond to feedback, compliments and complaints.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only where it is necessary and lawful to do so, for example with local authorities, the NHS and other health and social care professionals involved in a young person’s care, with regulators such as Ofsted, and with safeguarding partners where there is a duty or a need to protect a child.
Where we use trusted service providers to help us operate (for example IT or communications providers), we require them to protect your information and to use it only for the purposes we specify.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as the law and our regulatory obligations require. Care records for children and young people are kept in line with statutory retention requirements. When information is no longer needed, we dispose of it securely.
Keeping your information secure
We take the security of personal information seriously and use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Access to sensitive information is limited to those who need it to do their jobs.
Your rights
Under data protection law you have rights over your personal information, including the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete information, or to restrict how we use it, in certain circumstances.
- Object to us using your information in certain circumstances.
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where we are relying on consent.
Some of these rights are limited where we have a legal or regulatory duty to keep information. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
